PARK STEWARDSHIP
Resource Library
Park Steward Resource Library
Located in the old Quartermaster’s Building at Historic Fort Wayne, DPC’s Resource Library is a new initiative that aims to help park stewards keep their parks clean and activated. Thanks to Green Living Science, Carhartt, and the City of Detroit for their support and partnership!
Who can access the library?
The library is available to Adopt-a-Park stewards, Our Backyard Detroit Champions, and any not-for-profit group that stewards a park in the city of Detroit. If you have questions about your eligibility, contact Rob Streit.
How can you access the library?
All items must be reserved in advance using the MyTurn website. To borrow materials, you must first make an account and agree to the library policies. You must also have a credit card on file to make a reservation. Once you have selected your first item to borrow, you will be prompted to choose a check out and check in day. Check ins and check outs are only available during library hours. If these times don’t work for you, please contact Rob Streit to coordinate another time to pick up or return your items. After you select your reservation dates, you can then add more items to your cart. You can increase the quantity of an item from your cart as well (if more are available).
What sort of items are available?
We have materials for park clean ups (such as shovels, rakes, loppers, 5-gallon garbage buckets) and park events (folding tables, pop-up tents, solar powered generator, inflatable movie screen). See the full list online – our inventory is growing so check back often! Please contact Rob Streit to suggest additions to the inventory, or to donate supplies.
Why garbage buckets and not garbage bags?
In an effort to cut down on single-use plastic waste, we encourage stewards to borrow our reusable 5-gallon buckets for picking up trash in the parks. Once a bucket is filled, it can be dumped into a garbage bag. When picking up your clean up supplies, stewards can take some of our 44-gallon garbage bags based on the size of their clean up job.
