3v3 in the D: Youth Basketball Tournament

Registration is now open for our annual 3v3 in the D tournament! Presented in partnership with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and sponsored by the Detroit Pistons Foundation, the William Davidson Foundation, and Delta Dental, 3v3 in the D is Detroit’s premier 3v3 youth basketball tournament, celebrating competition, sports and community. Held on August 17th in Detroit, this 3v3 tournament will host more than 300 kids for a day full of basketball and excitement.

3v3 in the D is the culmination of the Pistons Neighbors Program, celebrating a summer of fun and recreation in Detroit’s parks. In addition to the tournament, the Detroit Pistons Foundation will provide an afternoon of family fun including 3 point competitions and skills workshops.

The tournament will be held along the Detroit Riverfront’s Cullen Plaza, located at 1340 E. Atwater St. Detroit, MI 48207. Free Parking is available for all participants for the tournament. Tournament details are below:

Games

There are 2 Divisions per Age Group. The format for each Age Group Division is Round Robin with the Winner of Each Age Group Division playing in the Championship Game. The Championship game in each division is single elimination. Games are 12 minutes long or first to 21 points. Baskets are 2pt and 3pts (behind the arc). Free throws are 1pt each. Teams will alternate possession after a basket is scored. Free-throws will be shot: A-shooting fouls (two shots, second one is live) and B- on all fouls in the last 2:00 (one shot and the shooting team retains possession). Overtime is a sudden death period.

Tournament Rules

PLAYER ID AND SUPERVISION POLICY: All teams must have an adult representative to chaperone the team at all times. An adult representative means an the parent or guardian of one of the participating team members. The adult representative will be responsible for checking in the team at each game and must be present while the team is in in competition.

GAME TIME: Games are 12:00 minutes with a running clock OR the first team to score 21pts. Start time is forfeit time. Any team showing up past the start time shall forfeit the game.

GAME CLOCK: The clock is a running clock and will be stopped only on these occasions:

1. If an injury occurs in the last 2:00 minutes of play

2. When a time out is called

SCORING: All baskets are two points except those made behind the three-point arc. Baskets made behind the arc are three points. All technical fouls are an automatic three points.

STARTING POSSESSION: First possession will be determined by a coin-flip. Possession will alternate on all made baskets. Must check the basketball on all dead ball situations.

TAKE BACKS: ALL defensive rebounds must clear the 3-point line

OVERTIME: If the game is tied, a sudden-death overtime will be played (first team to score wins).

• Possession arrow determines who will receive the ball first in OT

• There is no clock during the OT period

TIME OUTS: Each team has two, 30-second time outs for the game. No timeouts in overtime.

SPORTSMANSHIP: Any and all acts of unsportsmanlike conduct shall be subjected to immediate player or team ejection from both game and tournament.

UNIFORMS: All players are required to wear matching set of light and dark uniforms to the game so that teams can be properly identified by the referees and scorekeepers. All players will be provided a reversible penny.

IMPORTANT-WAIVER NEEDS TO BE SIGNED IN ORDER TO PLAY: There is a waiver included in the confirmation email with your general information. To save time at check in, please have the waiver form ready and filled out with parents signatures for each player. A guardian designated by parents and accompanying younger participants may sign for participants under 18 years of age.

Weather

The tournament will take place rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, delays or cancellation may occur.

Security

There will be security officers and Detroit Police Officers onsite throughout the event and always at the event entrance at St. Antoine and Atwater Street. In the event you have an emergency (lost child, medical or behavioral), please inform the officer of the issue so that we may take immediate action to resolve the situation.
